JUST IN: Browns To Sign Star RB after announcing QB Tyler Huntley Signing deal worth $11M

Amid Nick Chubb’s ACL rehabilitation, the Browns have Kareem Hunt still unsigned as they seek to bring in additional experienced support ahead of Chubb’s seventh season.

According to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team is in the process of signing D’Onta Foreman. Over the past three years, Foreman, a former third-round pick, has moved between various teams but has consistently played a significant role in their backfields. Now, he is set to join the Cleveland Browns, reuniting with former Panthers running backs coach Duce Staley.

This development follows recent speculation that the Browns were leaning towards maintaining the status quo in their backfield. However, the team has now added two veteran pieces. In the previous week, Cleveland brought in Nyheim Hines, a back specializing in pass-catching and returns. Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong, acquired in a trade in 2023, are also on the roster, creating depth in the running back group.

After facing challenges and returning to prominence in the late 2010s, Foreman has assumed leading roles in several backfields. He stepped up for the Titans in the absence of Derrick Henry due to a foot fracture in 2021 and became the main starter following the trade of Christian McCaffrey by the Panthers. Although his tenure with the Bears did not see as much utilization, he still started eight games and played a significant role in their backfield rotation.

Weighing in at 235 pounds, Foreman is seen as a backup plan for Chubb due to his similar playing style. Last season, the Browns utilized Ford in a similar role alongside Hunt, contributing to the team’s 12th-ranked rushing offense with Ford amassing 1,132 scrimmage yards. The addition of Foreman will likely intensify the competition in the running back group, with Foreman and Ford expected to vie for the RB2 position.

Chubb, who has had two surgeries, is anticipated to discuss a contract extension with the Browns in the near future. While an extension could lower his current salary cap hit, the team will want assurances of his full recovery before finalizing the deal. Foreman’s arrival underscores the Browns’ commitment to solidifying their running back depth, with the versatile back bringing valuable experience and production to the team.
