The Ottawa Senators made a trade on Monday, sending Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Nick Jensen and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL draft.
When the Senators acquired Chychrun in March 2023, they relinquished a significant amount, including a conditional first-rounder in June of that year, a conditional second-rounder in 2024, and a second-round selection in 2026 to the Arizona Coyotes.
Chychrun, a 26-year-old player from Boca Raton, Fla., had a productive season with Ottawa, recording 14 goals and 41 points in 82 games. Throughout his career with the Coyotes and Senators, he accumulated 76 goals and 216 points in 467 regular-season games.
With one year remaining on his current contract, which has an average annual value of US$4.6 million, Chychrun may become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season.
On the other side of the trade, Nick Jensen, aged 33 and hailing from Rogers, Minn., contributed one goal and 14 points in 78 games last season with the Washington Capitals. Across his career with Washington and the Detroit Red Wings, he has amassed 19 goals and 134 points in 562 games.
The Ottawa Senators have secured deals with David Perron, Mike Amadio, and Noah Gregor
David Perron, a 35-year-old forward, is nearing a two-year agreement with the Senators at an average annual value (AAV) of $4 million, as confirmed on Monday. In his most recent season with the Detroit Red Wings, he tallied 17 goals and 47 points in 76 games.
Previously, Perron signed a two-year contract worth $9.5 million with the Red Wings in July 2022. Having been drafted 26th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2007, Perron boasts 310 goals and 768 points in 1,131 career games across stints with the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Red Wings. Notably, he played a crucial role in the Blues’ 2019 Stanley Cup victory, contributing seven goals and 16 points in 26 playoff games.
Additionally, forward Mike Amadio has inked a three-year deal valued at $2.6 million per season, while Noah Gregor has signed a one-year contract worth $850,000. Amadio, aged 28, recorded 14 goals and 13 assists in 73 games with the Vegas Golden Knights during the 2023-24 season.
On the other hand, 25-year-old Gregor notched six goals and six assists in 63 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs
