Just In: Angels Head Coach Ron Washington Announces another major signing

Angels acquire right-hander Roansy Contreras from Pirates

Roansy Contreras, a right-hander, was traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday for cash.

The 24-year-old Contreras was placed on the Pirates’ designated for assignment list on Saturday in order to make way for Paul Skenes, who is expected to make his major league debut on Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

Contreras was out of options after struggling for the majority of the previous two seasons and being acquired as part of the transaction that sent pitcher Jameson Taillon to the New York Yankees in January 2021. He spent the most of his first three seasons as a starter, but this year he has been using the bullpen. In 12 games, he has a 4.41 ERA and a 1-0 record.

Over the course of four major league seasons, Contreras is 9-12 with a 4.83 ERA in 30 starts and 23 relief appearances.
