The transfer won’t be able to play for the Cougars until 2025.
University of Houston talented linebacker will sit out the upcoming season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon, as announced by Willie Fritz.
Platt, who transferred from Tulane, sustained the injury during a post-spring workout. This setback is especially disheartening as it occurred less than a year after he tore his Achilles in the other leg during Tulane’s season opener last year.
Upon transitioning from leading the Tulane Green Wave to the Houston Cougars this offseason, Fritz brought along three notable transfers, including Platt, who had shown promise in the spring. Unfortunately, Fritz revealed during the Big 12 Media Days that Platt would be unable to participate this season due to the recent injury.
The injury deals a significant setback to Platt, who had previously gone through the grueling recovery process once. Recovering from an Achilles tear typically takes nine to twelve months, so facing this injury again presents a daunting mental and physical challenge for Platt. His path back to the field from rehabilitation will be difficult due to the severity of the injury.
During his time at Tulane under Fritz, Platt played in 15 games across three seasons, notching 40 tackles, including three for a loss, two sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery, and a pass defense.
Despite only playing in one game last season, he made a notable impact with 15 tackles and a sack against South Alabama. Before getting injured, Platt was expected to be a starter for the Cougars, underscoring the team’s significant loss for the upcoming season.
