Juan Soto Makes Honest Admission on Mets Offense as Struggles Continue

The New York Mets’ offense has struggled as of late, and Juan Soto seemingly has no answers as to what is going wrong.

The Mets ranked 19th in runs scored in July, and Soto is slashing .222/.344/.380 in his last 30 games. The Cleveland Guardians’ Gavin Williams nearly no-hit the Mets until Soto’s ninth-inning home run on Wednesday. The Mets still lost, but Soto admitted his confusion with the team’s woes after the game.

“I really don’t know what’s going on,” Soto said, per the New York Post’s Dan Martin.

The Mets entered play on Friday on a four-game losing streak and had lost eight of their last 10 games. The team is 2 1/2 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East, and has a three-game lead on the Cincinnati Reds for the final National League Wild Card spot.

“We have the talent. The guys are capable (of doing) damage here,” Soto told Martin. “One day it’s gonna turn around.”

“One day” may have to come sooner rather than later. The Mets are about to take on the Milwaukee Brewers, who have the best record in baseball and have been dominating nearly every opponent.

A series win in Milwaukee would go a long way for the Mets’ confidence. Perhaps Soto’s ninth-inning home run will be a spark for the team. However, Soto knows it will not be as easy as just waiting for things to click.

“Nobody said it’s going to be easy for us,” Soto said, per Martin. “It’s a challenge. We’ve got to go out there and take it from them. Nobody is going to bring the trophy over here and give it to us. We’ve got to go out there and take it.”
