Johni Broome Receives Major Award Before Final Four

In a thrilling lead-up to the NCAA Final Four, Auburn Tigers’ senior forward Johni Broome has been named the NABC Pete Newell Big Man of the Year, a prestigious honor recognizing his dominance on the court throughout the 2024-2025 college basketball season.

The announcement, made by Auburn Basketball’s official X account with a dynamic image of Broome in action, comes as the Tigers prepare to face the Florida Gators in the Final Four in San Antonio.

Broome’s award marks a historic moment for the Tigers, as he becomes the first player from the program to receive this accolade, voted on by National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) members across NCAA Division I.

Broome has been a cornerstone of the Tigers’ success, averaging an impressive double-double of 18.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, alongside 2.9 assists and 2.1 blocks.

His standout performance in the Elite Eight against the Michigan State Spartans, where he tallied 25 points and 14 rebounds, showcased his pivotal role in the team’s deep tournament run. Broome was a force to be reckoned with and proved to be too much for the Spartans’ interior to handle.

Despite a recent injury scare during the Tigers’ Elite Eight game, where he briefly left with an elbow issue, Broome’s resilience and leadership have shone through, inspiring his teammates to stay relentless.

As the Tigers gear up for the Final Four, Broome’s recognition as the nation’s top big man adds momentum to their championship aspirations. Look for head coach Bruce Pearl to use Broome being awarded with such a prestigious honor as a stepping stone for his team.
