Joe Hamilton Missing from Georgia Tech Radio Broadcast Without Explanation
Joe Hamilton was absent from the radio broadcast of the Georgia Tech game against Syracuse, which ended in a surprising 31-28 defeat for the No. 23 Yellow Jackets, thus dropping them from the top 25 rankings.
This absence marked Hamilton’s first since he became the Yellow Jackets’ radio analyst in 2022. Former Georgia Tech center Sean Bedford, who previously held the position, filled in for him during the game.
While it’s not unusual for broadcasters to miss games, the lack of explanation for Hamilton’s absence raises questions. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC), the operations director of Georgia Tech’s flagship station, 680 The Fan, did not reply to two email inquiries about the situation, and a program spokesperson deferred comment to the station. Hamilton himself has not responded to media requests for clarification either.
A former star quarterback at Georgia Tech, Hamilton was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014. After his successful college career, he played professionally in various leagues, including a four-season stint in the NFL, before turning to coaching at his alma mater.
Recently, he has expanded his media presence in Atlanta, co-hosting 680 The Fan’s morning show, The Locker Room, alongside his role as radio analyst for the Yellow Jackets. Awful Announcing will provide updates as more information becomes available.
