Jimmy Rogers and his South Dakota State Jackrabbits clinched a thrilling win Saturday night in Brookings.
The game, expected to be high scoring, shifted into a defensive battle after a fast start by both teams and seemed decided after a late 4th-quarter interception. However, the game moved to overtime, where the Jackrabbits ultimately secured the victory with Amar Johnson’s game-winning touchdown run following a crucial 4th-and-short conversion.
Now, the Jackrabbits are headed to Murray State, aiming to build a winning streak as the regular season nears its end. Coach Jimmy Rogers emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement, rejecting the notion of complacency in Week 8. “That’s what losers say,” Rogers stated, adding that last year’s playoff success came from finding another gear in the final stretch. He stressed, “We need to choose the attitude that we prepare with in order to have success.”
The Jackrabbits hold onto the #2 spot in the FCS polls, while the Coyotes have fallen to 5th. Each upcoming game will be critical for seeding and securing home-field advantage, with the ultimate goal of reaching Frisco.
