Former Pittsburgh Steelers center gets second chance to start with new team

With multiple injuries plaguing the Houston Texans’ offensive line, former Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick Kendrick Green is seizing an opportunity to prove himself. Shaq Mason is sidelined with a Grade 2 MCL sprain, while young interior lineman Juice Scruggs continues to recover from a foot injury. These setbacks have opened the door for Green to step in and play at guard. Alongside Tytus Howard, Green is now part of the Texans’ starting guard duo as the team works to manage their depleted offensive line.

Kendrick Green started against the Baltimore Ravens and emerged as the Texans’ second-highest-graded player from that game.

Originally drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Illinois, Green was brought in as a center. However, the Texans have transitioned him back to guard, hoping to unlock potential that Pittsburgh struggled to tap into during his first two seasons. The Steelers traded Green in August 2023, cutting ties after deeming him a disappointing draft pick following two underwhelming years.
