Nick Townsend, a four-star athlete and tight end, chose the Texas Longhorns over USC, Texas A&M, and Alabama.

The native of Spring, Texas, declared on Monday that he will continue to play for the Longhorns. At 6’3 and 225 pounds, Townsend is listed inside the top 200 of every major ranking site’s class of 2025 player rankings, but outside the top 100. Townsend is ranked No. 7 among tight ends in the class by On3, trailing only Texas A&M recruit Kiotti Armstrong in the Texas rankings.

Jordan Scruggs, a recruiting analyst for 247Sports, had predicted Texas would select the pass catcher at the beginning of the month prior to his commitment, demonstrating the continued faith in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s recruiting strategy.

Another 247 analyst, Greg Biggins, said that Townsend “runs like a big receiver but has a tight end frame.”

Although the athlete seems to be an excellent tight end at the next level, he also plays defense in high school. Townsend is a great asset who can line up wherever on the field, particularly in the potent Sarkisian attack.

Townsend joins quarterback KJ Lacey, running back James Simon, tight end Emaree Winston, and running back James Simon as Texas’ eighth four-star and 14th overall pick in the class of 2025. In recent recruitment fights, Sarkisian has swung and missed at some of the best offensive players, including No. 1 wide receiver Dakorien Moore and No. 9 offensive tackle Lamont Rogers, but the Longhorns are starting to settle in.

Townsend will become the third pledge in July, and supporters of Texas will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of players like Michael Terry III, Jaime Ffrench, Michael Fasusi, and Kaliq Lockett, who are all five stars hoping to don burnt orange in the next season.
