ITS OFFICIAL: Miami announces the commitment of a Highly-productive wide receiver.

Daylyn Upshaw, a wide receiver at Phenix City (Ala.) Central, declared his commitment to Miami on Saturday night. During his recruitment campaign, the extremely productive 5-foot-11, 175-pound player had offers from schools including Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Texas, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.

The rising senior, who became the 18th member of the program’s class this cycle, made a vow to the Hurricanes on the only official visit this summer to Miami. He is the team’s lone wide receiver.

“Me and [offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson] and coach Kevin Beard talked game and he just feels like he can use me the way they use [All-ACC wide receiver Xavier Restrepo] with a lot of option routes, a lot of deep balls, stuff like that,” Upshaw said during his stay at the school in the month of June.

For one of the best programs in Yellowhammer State as a junior, Upshaw amassed 59 receptions for 1185 yards and 15 touchdowns while playing opposite five-star Auburn true freshman Cam Coleman. Right now, Miami’s class of recruits ranks ninth nationwide.

Prior to his declaration, Upshaw was described as a “well-rounded wide receiver prospect that put up big numbers as a junior playing opposite of five-star Cam Coleman” by 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins. “He has the speed to sprint into the deeper third and catch the long ball. His ability to take advantage of catch-and-run opportunities is another noteworthy aspect of his game.

He has above-average vision and can avoid tackles by making jump cuts. Although he is on the younger side for the grade, having recently turned 17, and having observed him at a number of camps and competitions, I wouldn’t be shocked if he underwent a significant physical change in the upcoming years. All things considered, considering Miami’s offensive goals, this is a good addition. He’s the kind of wideout who can play up on the inside or outside and provides some versatility.”

Upshaw comes to Las Vegas (Nev.) to join an attacking group led by three players ranked in the Top 247. Girard Pringle Jr., a running back from Seffner (Fla.), bishop grove offensive lineman Seuseu Alofaituli of Bishop Gorman, and tight end Brock Schott of Leo (Ind.).

Alpharetta, Georgia Luke Nickel, the quarterback for Milton, is in charge of one of the nation’s top ten football programs after winning the state championship in Georgia’s premier division.

The Hurricanes have done a fantastic job of being present in Alabama throughout the Mario Cristobal era; last cycle, they signed players like four-star linebacker Cam Pruitt and EDGE Cole McConathy. This past spring, they both made a good first impression.

With cornerback Timothy Merritt of Parker, Alabama, committing to Miami in the Class of 2025, Upshaw is the second athlete in the state to do so.
