Not only did the Islanders experience a breakdown during the second period against the Devils on Sunday, but their captain may have jeopardized himself for a suspension at a crucial point in the team’s playoff aspirations.
Anders Lee received a game misconduct for a knee-on-knee collision with Nico Hischier that was clearly beyond acceptable limits, as the Islanders’ forward made contact with the left knee of the Devils’ captain.
Following the incident, Hischier headed straight to the locker room while Timo Meier intervened to support him, though Hischier did return for the third period.
Subsequently, Meier and Lee engaged in a fight, resulting in both players being assessed fighting majors. Additionally, Lee was handed a five-minute penalty for kneeing and a game misconduct.
