The Iowa football team released its depth chart on Monday ahead of a week three matchup against Troy.
The Hawkeyes made just one change to its two-deep on either side of the ball, elevating Kaleb Johnson to the No. 1 running back spot.
Johnson started the season at No. 3 on the depth chart before sharing the starting role with Kamari Moulton in week 2.
Johnson showed out in the first two games for Iowa, racking up 306 yards and 4 touchdowns on 36 attempts.
After rushing for 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 25 attempts against Iowa State, Johnson drew the praise of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz for his development on the field.
“He’s played well for us the last two years, but he’s playing at a much higher level right now,” Ferentz said. “Part of it’s maturity. His focus is better. He’s practicing better. I think it’s experience and maturity. He’s been here a couple years. He’s run the football, worked hard to get better, and it’s showing out there on the field. He made some really nice plays today.”
