Iowa Hawkeyes dealt with brutal news
The Iowa men’s basketball team lost the commitment of its highest rated member of the 2025 recruiting class.
Joshua Lewis, a four-star prospect in the class of 2025, decommitted from the Hawkeyes on Monday.
According to reporting from 247Sports’s Travis Branham, head coach Fran McCaffery’s dismissal from the program last week caused Lewis’s decommitment.
“I was excited about playing for Coach Fran,” Lewis told 247Sports. “After the recent changes to the coaching staff, I feel it is in my best interest to explore other opportunities.”
Lewis committed to Iowa on January 23 after an official visit earlier that month. He holds offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Illinois, Marquette, Michigan State, NC State, Ole Miss, South Florida and Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-7, 185-pound small forward prospect from Tampa, Florida, originally committed to South Florida, but decommitted following the passing of former Bulls head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim in October of 2024.
Following Lewis’s decommitment, the Hawkeyes’ 2025 recruiting class includes Badara Diakite, who signed a scholarship agreement with the program in November, and Dezmon Brsicoe, who committed in December.
