Ben McCollum and the Hawkeyes Shares Big Recruiting Update
Iowa basketball is back on the recruiting trail.
The Hawkeyes are still in pursuit of their first commit to the 2026 recruiting class and have sent out offers to some extremely talented prospects. Ben McCollum is confident in his ability to bring top-tier talent to Iowa City, which was evident by securing the transfer class that he did and the recruits he added to his 2025 recruiting class. But the work is just beginning.
On Monday morning, four-star shooting guard prospect Joseph Hartman announced he had received an offer from McCollum and the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard is from Gainesville, Florida, and plays at The Rock School. He’s the 91st-ranked recruit in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports.
Hartman currently has 16 offers, including Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Stanford, and Virginia Tech. And by looking at Hartman’s performance on the AAU circuits this year, it’s easy to see why so many schools are interested in his talents.
Hartman is playing for Austin Rivers SE Elite AAU team right now and is catching the eye of many. He’s dropped games with 16, 18, 23, and 26 points throughout various tournaments this summer. He’s a lengthy guard who can defend different positions and has shown a tendency to create plenty of steals on that end of the court. He rebounds well for his position and has been an efficient scorer as well, seeing his three-point shot improve this summer.
Hartman would be a massive get for McCollum and the Hawkeyes, especially since he’s from Florida. That was something that Fran McCaffery struggled with. Iowa didn’t land many top-tier recrits from outside the state during his tenure. McCollum getting Hartman to commit would signify a big shift in that trend for the Hawkeyes going forward and add a piece to next year’s roster that could contribute from the jump.
