CINCINNATI — On Monday, Zac Taylor shared the latest updates regarding the Cincinnati Bengals’ injured players. The most significant news came regarding defensive end Cam Sample, who suffered a severe injury last week.
Sample will miss the entire season due to a torn Achilles tendon, and this injury might mark the end of his tenure with the Bengals, as he is set to enter free agency next year. Taylor expressed his admiration for Sample, describing him as a “top-notch person” while addressing the media about the unfortunate situation.
“He tore his Achilles, so he’ll be out for the season,” Taylor stated concerning Sample. “That’s unfortunate; Cam has been a vital part of our team.”
In addition to Sample, there are other notable veterans whose statuses are being monitored: Sam Hubbard, Trey Hendrickson, and Trent Brown. Brown, the right tackle, returned to the rehabilitation field on Sunday and is anticipated to participate in individual drills on Monday. Meanwhile, Hubbard and Hendrickson are still recovering from their respective injuries.
“We’re on the same page. He has done a great job,” Taylor remarked about Brown. “Today was the day we set a week and a half ago.”
Taylor confirmed that most key offensive and defensive players would engage in individual work during a Monday practice focused heavily on special teams. Although the Bengals do not require the edge rushers for immediate action until Week One, the team is currently facing a shortage in that position.
“We have a couple more days to sort through that,” Taylor commented regarding the potential for the edge rushers to participate in this weekend’s preseason game. “I believe both are feeling good; we just need to determine the best way to incorporate them into team drills.”
