Travis Kelce Will Retire from the Kansas City Chiefs to Become the Head Coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats

As the college football season progresses, coaches are starting to feel the heat. The Cincinnati Bearcats are currently 3-1 in 2024, but this doesn’t necessarily indicate that Scott Satterfield is a long-term solution for the team. Instead, many believe that Travis Kelce could be the answer.

Currently, Kelce is still playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, if the Chiefs struggle this season and tensions continue to rise, the question of Kelce’s retirement may arise. There has been a noticeable decline in his performance, as he finished the last season with fewer than 1,000 yards for the first time since 2016.

As he approaches 35, it’s evident that the Chiefs are beginning to plan for a future without him. This season, Kelce has received the lowest number of targets since 2016, totaling 121. Thus far in 2024, he has only been targeted seven times, catching just four for a total of 39 yards, mostly due to a single catch of 23 yards.

Although Kelce remains a solid player, the rise of teammates Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy shows that he is no longer the central figure he once was on the Chiefs. This situation raises the possibility of his retirement after the 2024 season. However, given his passion for the game, it’s likely that he will look to stay involved, potentially as a head coach.

That coaching opportunity could be with his alma mater, the Cincinnati Bearcats. Satterfield is currently in his second year, having led the team to their worst record in 25 years at 3-9, with a 1-8 record in the Big 12 during his first season. The team has shown signs of undiscipline under Satterfield, and while they have started 2024 well, this has more to do with facing weaker opponents. The dissatisfaction among players regarding Satterfield’s coaching suggests the program needs to move in a new direction.

Kelce understands the winning culture required for a championship-caliber team. He has been instrumental in helping Patrick Mahomes identify defenses, showcasing his coaching instincts and potential to develop players. This could help the Bearcats regain the momentum they had under Luke Fickell.
