Perry High School 5-star recruit Koa ASU in top 5
Koa Peat, a highly sought-after top-10 basketball recruit for the 2025 class, has trimmed his list of finalists to five schools, including Arizona and Arizona State (ASU).
Peat expressed his interest in playing for ASU when he spoke with On3.com’s Joe Tipton on Tuesday, revealing that his decision will come down to the Sun Devils, Arizona Wildcats, Baylor Bears, Houston Cougars, and Texas Longhorns.
The 6-foot-8 power forward from Perry High School in Gilbert has also looked at programs like Duke, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Kansas in the past.
He attended ASU’s season opener against Idaho State on Tuesday, sitting alongside ASU football coach Kenny Dillingham, who mentors Peat’s brother, offensive lineman Keona Peat. Koa previously made an official visit to ASU in September.
Peat had an impressive junior year, averaging 20.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game, earning him the Gatorade Arizona Boys Basketball Player of the Year honor. He could step into a significant role with the Sun Devils, especially with Ball State transfer Basheer Jihad, who started in ASU’s opener, playing his final college season.
Head coach Bobby Hurley is currently building towards the 2025 class, having just secured a strong ninth-ranked 2024 class, which is led by five-star recruit Jayden Quaintance. The styles of Quaintance and Peat could complement each other well, with Peat’s interior game enhancing ASU’s attacking options.
On the other hand, the Wildcats are welcoming a single commitment for the 2025 class with four-star small forward Dwayne Aristode. With starting forward Trey Townsend set to run out of eligibility, opportunities could open up for Peat at Arizona, although they might face more competition with returning big men, making ASU an appealing option for him.
it seems that Koa Peat is keen on making an impact at ASU
