Moments before the scheduled press conference for the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team ahead of the 2025 Big 12 Tournament, the All-Big Awards were revealed.
Head coach Jacie Hoyt learned the results of this year’s awards earlier in the afternoon and was pleased to see four of her players’ names listed. Sophomore guard Stailee Heard was named to the All-Big 12 First Team, senior guard Anna Gret Asi was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team, freshman guard Jadyn Wooten made the All-Freshman Team and junior guard Micah Gray earned Honorable Mention honors.
And as Hoyt, Asi and Heard sat at the table in the press room of Gallagher-Iba Arena, there was some reserved joy and pride for the accomplishments of being named among the conference’s best, but there was also disappointment and frustration that there wasn’t more recognition for the No. 3 team in the Big 12.
”I’m very proud and there’s no doubt that they deserve to be on those lists,” Hoyt said of the four players honored. “I think if you again do your research and pay attention, there are a lot of kids on teams that finished lower than us that are on those teams.
Here we are, we finished third, and while we had some other players acknowledged, Micah was honorable mention — there were teams that finished lower than us with a lot more players that were named on those all conference teams. That’s pretty disappointing. I feel a bit sad and hurt for our kids because I feel a bit cheated in that sense.”
