Huskers addressing defensive need with recruiting key flip attempt

The Nebraska football team doesn’t look all that great when taking a peek at the 2026 recruiting class right now. However, it’s clear that Matt Rhule and Co. are trying to change that in a big way with the pursuit of Julian Walker.

The Cornhuskers are attempting to flip one of the best EDGE players in the 2026 class, who just happens to already be committed to the Michigan Wolverines. However, while he’s currently bound for Ann Arbor, he’s giving Lincoln at least a chance of getting the Huskers their foot in the door.

Nebraska football targeting Michigan commit Julian Walker in 2026 class

Walker, who stands 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, is a defensive line target for the Nebraska football team, with defensive line coach Terry Bradden and recruiting coordinators Anthony Johnson and Matt Pearce leading the way for the Huskers. Walker was offered just this past week, and NU is already seemingly making some headway.

Like Nebraska, South Carolina is still recruiting Walker. The Gamecocks have never really stopped going after the EDGE and could be the more dangerous rival in this recruiting fight. Walker actually took a visit over the weekend for their game; however, he does have a Gameday visit to Ann Arbor scheduled this fall.

The Nebraska football staff will push to get Walker on campus this season, ideally as soon as next weekend, to see Nebraska take on Michigan, where the Huskers hope to make a statement. At the very least, they’ll look to catch the 4-star’s attention with their performance against the program he’s currently committed to. He’s scheduled to return to Michigan next month and is expected to visit South Carolina for at least one more game this fall.
