Auburn coach Hugh Freeze wasted no time expressing his dissatisfaction with the Tigers’ practice on Wednesday.

what he called one of Auburn’s better practices on Monday, Freeze believes his message to the team afterward might have affected their energy going into Wednesday’s practice.

“Maybe I made a mistake in telling them in last night’s team meeting, ‘You know, these next three days is going to be real,’” Freeze said. “Now, you got Wednesday, Thursday, we’re going to get after it, and we’re going to go through some competitions and have one live period each day.” Freeze continued by announcing that the team will scrimmage on Friday to cap off the second week of camp.

“Friday, we’re going to have a scrimmage. So, these three days, is a very physical, tough stretch,” Freeze added. “I don’t know, maybe they said, hey, let’s save a little in the tank, subconsciously, I don’t know. But excellence starts with a mindset, and we got to show them that on the film. I don’t think we had the same straining we had a couple days ago.”

Despite not allowing the media to view Friday’s scrimmage, Freeze explained the format of how that game will look.

“We’ll try to get 30 plays with the [first team], 30 plays with the [second team] and probably about 20 with the [third team],” Freeze said. “Hope we get some heat and get to experience that, but we probably won’t push it.”

“We’re doing some red zone lockout [Thursday], which will be a live period, and then I’ll try to hold that scrimmage down to about 30 plays per teams. But saying that, most coaches, that 30 becomes 35, 40,” Freeze added.

Auburn returns to practice Thursday morning and the media viewing period is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. AL.com will continue to cover all the roster trends throughout the Tigers’ fall camp.
