As the Ohio State Buckeyes gear up for their season opener against Akron on August 31st, expectations are running high.
Many believe Ohio State could be a top contender for the National Championship, given their impressive talent. There are even hopes that the Buckeyes might finish the regular season undefeated, clinch the Big Ten Championship, and secure a national title.
ESPN recently shared its predictions for Ohio State’s regular season using the FPI matchup predictor, forecasting a final record of 11-1. The lone loss is projected to be against the Oregon Ducks, another team seen as a National Championship contender. However, the predictor suggests a victory over the Michigan Wolverines.
An 11-1 finish would position Ohio State well for the College Football Playoff, as a single loss, especially to a top-tier team, shouldn’t be detrimental. That game against Oregon is still winnable, and if the Buckeyes perform at their best, an undefeated 12-0 record is within reach.
Head coach Ryan Day and his team must approach the season one week at a time. They will encounter challenges and close matches, but staying focused and playing to their potential is key.
With all that said, the start of the 2024 season can’t come soon enough, and anticipation is building!
