“Huge boost” Dayton linebacker earns weekly Pioneer Football League honor

A University of Dayton football player received a weekly honor from the Pioneer Football League (PFL) for his performance in the Flyers’ recent victory.

Linebacker Gideon Lampron was recognized as the PFL’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week following Dayton’s 18-10 win over Saint Francis at Welcome Stadium on Saturday.

He shared this accolade with defensive tackle Matt Ballentine from the University of San Diego.

With the middle name ESPN, Lampron made a notable defensive play in the first quarter by tackling St. Francis’ Markell Holman in the end zone for a safety, giving UD a 9-0 advantage.

He recorded 11 tackles (six solo), forced two fumbles, and recovered one himself.

The Flyer defense also forced four fumbles and managed to recover three.

With this victory, Dayton starts the season 1-0 after overcoming the Red Flash.

St. Francis was predicted to finish second in the Northeast Conference.

Dayton has a bye week before facing Indiana State on September 14 in Terre Haute, Indiana, at 6 p.m., with the game set to air on WHIO Radio.
