“Huge Boost” as Oregon State Beavers head coach Scott Rueck Announces another Major Signing

Elisa Mehyar, a Danish centre, committed to Oregon State on Wednesday, marking another foreign recruit for Scott Rueck and the Beavers.

Mehyar has competed internationally for SISU Copenhagen and for Denmark’s U18 squad at the 2022 European Championship. In 2024–2025, she will be a true freshman.

Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck expressed his happiness that Elisa Mehyar made the decision to become a Beaver. “She has exceptional shot-blocking instincts and is a superb defender and shot-blocker. She runs the floor really well and with amazing agility. Elisa finishes beautifully around the rim and has excellent hands. We are thrilled that she chose to join Beaver Nation, as she will blend right in with our culture.”

“I chose Oregon State because it is a great fit where I have the perfect opportunity to grow and develop as a basketball player and as a person,” Mehyar stated. “Everyone I met on my visit were so good to me, and Coach Rueck and his staff helped me feel the family atmosphere immediately.”

With 19.8 minutes played per game and 6.9 rebounds, the incoming freshman is a dynamic presence on the glass for the Danish U18 squad. Mehyar led the squad in rebounds with eight or more in four of the five games she played in the group stage and classification rounds. In addition, she stopped two shots every game—including five versus Romania.

Mehyar, who played as an amateur for SISU Copenhagen, came off the bench to finish fourth on her squad in rebounding per game (4.1) and second in shot-blocking (0.7 rejections per game). Her field goal percentage was 46.3%.

The third addition to Oregon State’s programme for 2024–2025 is Mehyar. She follows in the footsteps of several other European centres that flourished in Corvallis, such as Marie Gulich, Jelena Mitrovic, and Joanna Grymek.
