“HUGE BOOST” As Family Ties Plays A ‘Massive’ Role On Top-Stars Decision To Stay In NBA Draft

Nephew of Pistons owner Tom Gores decides to stay in NBA Draft

Owner of the Detroit Pistons, Tom Gores, will formally select a relative in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Guard JZ Zaher of Bowling Green disclosed to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports on Wednesday that he will forgo his remaining NCAA eligibility and remain in the NBA Draft this year. The NBA Draft Early Entry Withdrawal Deadline was set for Wednesday.

Prospects who had declared for the draft had to choose between staying in the draft and going back to school.

The 6-foot-0 Zaher saw seven games as a sophomore at Bowling Green, averaging 0.7 points and 1.0 rebounds in 4.4 minutes per game. During his freshman year at Eastern Michigan, he played just two minutes overall and did not compile any noteworthy stats.

As a senior at Powers Catholic High School in Flint, Michigan, Zaher averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game, according to his web bio.

Notably, Zaher is also Gores’ nephew, the owner of the Pistons. The fifth and fifty-third overall picks in this year’s draft belong to Detroit. Zaher wouldn’t be the only well-known relative on the Pistons roster if he joins them, either as an undrafted free agent or with that later pick.
