Huge blow as head coach Dave Doeren announces yet another devastating news involving super talent

The NC State quarterback has announced his retirement from football, citing a concussion sustained earlier this year as the main reason. He was carted off the field in the first quarter of a gameĀ  after taking a significant hit while scrambling on a third-down play.

“Unfortunately, my dream has been cut just short,” he wrote in a social media post. “As you all know, I have battled injuries my whole career, but this is one that I cannot come back from. I have done everything I can to continue, but this is where the good Lord has called me to serve in a different space. Brain specialists, my family, and I have come to the conclusion that it is in my best interest to hang the cleats up. … I look forward to taking my passion and love for the game into the coaching space to serve and lead the next group of kids with a dream.”

His 2023 season at Coastal Carolina also ended prematurely due to a concussion, which occurred when an Arkansas State defensive back collided with him as he slid, causing his head to bounce off the turf. He remained motionless on the field for several minutes before being carted off and later transported in an ambulance.

The graduate senior’s career wraps up with impressive statistics: 10,523 passing yards and 91 touchdowns against just 22 interceptions. He also contributed 1,166 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He is the only player in the history of the Sun Belt Conference to receive the league’s Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons.

He plans to transition into coaching, expressing his enthusiasm about serving and leading future generations of players.

In his absence, freshman CJ Bailey has been starting for the Wolfpack, completing 67.1% of his passes for 1,376 yards and eight touchdowns. NC State will have a bye week before hosting Stanford on Nov. 2.

This former player is Grayson McCall.
