On Friday afternoon, Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels received major news as Derek Dixon, a four-star guard, announced his commitment to North Carolina. Dixon opted for the Tar Heels over Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, and Virginia, among others.

Ranked as the No. 51 player in the Class of 2025, Dixon visited Chapel Hill on Sept. 6, where the North Carolina staff successfully captured his attention. He quickly canceled a planned visit to Arizona following his time with the Tar Heels and made his decision soon after.

At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Dixon is an exciting addition for Hubert Davis as he begins to shape his 2025 class. Acknowledged as a top-10 combo guard in the nation across multiple recruiting platforms, Dixon aims to build on his outstanding performance during the Nike EYBL circuit this past summer as he prepares to advance at North Carolina.

This commitment signifies more than just rankings for the Tar Heel program, as the future of the North Carolina backcourt could be uncertain after 2024-25. RJ Davis will depart after his final year of eligibility, and standout freshman Ian Jackson may likely enter the NBA Draft.
