Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels React On Another Major News Update
After a first-round exit in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have made significant roster changes.
All-American guard RJ Davis has completed his senior season and is likely moving on to the professional ranks. Starting guard Elliot Cadeau has transferred to Michigan, while promising backups Ian Jackson and Jalen Washington have also entered the transfer portal.
Coach Davis has worked to address these gaps by bringing in three transfers to strengthen UNC’s roster. However, the Tar Heels have now lost another player to the portal.
On Friday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that UNC forward Cade Tyson has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
“NEW: North Carolina forward Cade Tyson has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to @PeteNakos_. The former Belmont transfer had an impressive 47% shooting rate from three-point range in 2023-24.
Tyson was unranked in the 2022 recruiting class after graduating from Carmel Christian School in Matthews, NC (according to 247Sports). He was also recognized as the 2022 North Carolina Mr. Basketball, finishing his high school career with over 2,000 points.
During his freshman year with the Belmont Bruins, Tyson secured a starting position, demonstrating his talent by averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
In his second and final season at Belmont, he elevated his performance, increasing his averages to 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, which earned him the distinction of being the 34th-best transfer in 2024 (247Sports).
During his one season at North Carolina, Tyson had limited playing time, averaging 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds over 7.9 minutes per game. His standout performance in Chapel Hill occurred on December 14 against La Salle, where he scored a season-high 23 points, shooting 9-of-14, along with grabbing five rebounds.
