Jim Larrañaga, the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Miami, confirmed Kiree Huie’s transfer on Monday.
Huie, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward, joins the Miami team after spending 2023–24 with the Idaho State Bengals.
“We are ecstatic to have Kiree Huie and his family join our Miami program,” stated Larrañaga. “Kiree is an excellent rebounder, has a strong work ethic, and plays the post with remarkable skill. His physical prowess and bulk will strengthen our front court and greatly enhance our program.
Huie led the Bengals in scoring with 11.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game while starting 32 of his 34 games. He shot at a 56.3 percent clip to finish second on the team in field goal percentage and co-led the team in rebounds.
In 2023–24, the forward recorded 21 double-digit games and four double-doubles. He also concluded the season tied for 10th place in rebounding, sixth in blocked shots, and fourth among all Big Sky players in offensive rebounds per game (2.15).
Huie played two seasons at Odessa College before coming to Idaho State. During that time, he led the Wranglers to consecutive WJCAC Championships and Elite Eight berths in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Huie averaged 10.6 points on 60.8 percent shooting and pulled down 5.9 rebounds a game while a sophomore at Odessa.
Huie, a Grayson, Georgia native, and Ian Schieffelin of Clemson helped the Grayson Rams reach the Georgia Class AAAAAAA state championship game in 2019–20.
