During a recent press conference, Derby County head coach Paul Warne provided an update on the club’s transfer situation, stating, “I am not closer to bringing anybody in.” He shared insights from his experience, noting that historically, about 90% of transfers occur in the final two days of the window.
Warne highlighted the current state of the Championship, mentioning that there are already 20 loans in play, whereas previous seasons typically saw an average of two or three loans per team. He anticipates that around 50 more loans will be finalized soon.
He acknowledged the need for a striker, saying, “I spoke to a striker because you don’t win points without goals.” In addition to a forward, he emphasized the necessity of acquiring a goalkeeper, a center-back, and another midfielder. Warne reiterated the importance of enhancing the squad, especially considering the pace and power present in the league, as demonstrated by Blackburn’s performance. He remarked, “At times we matched them comfortably, but in crucial moments we didn’t.”
