In a recent development, Trey Boyd, an offensive lineman from Shakopee, Minnesota, made a commitment to Northwestern on Monday, opting for the Wildcats over competing offers from Minnesota, Arizona, and Iowa State. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 270 pounds, Boyd holds the distinction of being the fifth-ranked recruit in Minnesota for the class of 2025, as per 247sports’ composite rankings, positioning him as the highest-rated offensive lineman in the state.

Boyd emerged on the recruiting radar during his junior year, securing his initial FBS offer from Iowa State in November. While the Gophers extended an offer on March 14 following an unofficial visit, Northwestern’s offer came six days earlier. Despite having official visits lined up with Kansas and Purdue, Boyd had significant interactions with Minnesota, undertaking three separate unofficial visits over the past year.
Notably, Boyd’s commitment to Northwestern marks the third instance of a top-10 in-state player choosing a school outside Minnesota, following Luke Emmerich’s decision to commit to Wisconsin and Meyer Swinney’s choice of California. With no offensive lineman currently committed to its 2025 class, Minnesota will need to redirect its recruiting focus to other positions moving forward.
