The NBA can be thrilling with its flashy plays and athletic displays, but fans sometimes witness devastating injuries. This Monday, during a game between the Utah Jazz and the Dallas Mavericks, fans watched in shock as Utah forward Taylor Hendricks was stretchered off the floor with a severe right-leg injury.
In the third quarter, Hendricks awkwardly dislocated his ankle, landing in a way that sent him down without any contact. The gruesome scene at the American Airlines Center stunned fans and players alike, with teammates visibly shaken by the traumatic sight.
Before his injury, Hendricks had contributed two points, two assists, and three rebounds in 21 minutes, though the Jazz ultimately lost to the Mavericks 110-102. Utah later confirmed via social media that Hendricks sustained a fractured right fibula along with the ankle dislocation.
Jazz head coach Will Hardy said during a press conference after the game that everyone on the team wanted to give Hendricks a big hug to make him feel better.
“I am sure he’s getting a lot of messages from family and loved ones. We are going to do our best as a group to just continue to show him and his family some love and support during this, but I said right now he’s probably just a little bit shocked by it all.” said Hardy.
