Heartbreaking: Former UAB standout from the Los Angeles Rams suffers season-ending injury

The Los Angeles Rams will be without cornerback UAB standout for at least the first four games of the NFL season, having placed the former UAB standout on injured reserve on Thursday.

Williams has been dealing with a hamstring issue throughout training camp and the preseason.

In the last three seasons, quarterbacks targeting receivers covered by Williams have recorded a passing-efficiency rating of 75.8. No other player in the NFL with a similar number of targets has a better rating during that time frame.

The Rams are set to begin their season against the Detroit Lions at 7:20 p.m. CDT on Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, with NBC broadcasting the game.

According to league rules, Williams must sit out at least four games due to his injured-reserve status. Following their game against the Lions, Los Angeles will face the Arizona Cardinals on September 15, the San Francisco 49ers on September 22, and the Chicago Bears on September 29.

Williams returned to the Rams in March after spending the previous two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. An undrafted rookie, he joined Los Angeles in 2018 and became a full-time starter in 2020. His latest appearance for the Rams was their 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI, where he led the team with eight tackles and recorded a pass deflection
