Head Coach Spencer Danielson Send Clear Message After Boise State’s spring game
Boise State hosted its annual spring game on Saturday at Albertsons Stadium.
Using a modified scoring system, the Boise State offense achieved five touchdowns, resulting in a 45-27 win against the defense.
“We had 15 opportunities to improve, and I believe we’re in a good position right now,” said Broncos head coach Spencer Danielson. “We’re not ready for Game 1, and neither is anyone else in the county. How we manage the next three months leading up to fall camp is going to be crucial.”
Dylan Riley scored two rushing touchdowns, while Malik Sherrod contributed a 65-yard touchdown run to lead the Boise State offense.
Here are the key takeaways from Danielson’s press conference.
On the spring transfer portal and potential player departures: “College football is in a unique situation right now. We’ve seen some players leave. As we navigate through this, our focus remains on the team. We’re committed to the strong group we have here.

“Yes, conversations are ongoing, but I’m feeling positive about our team. It could change rapidly, but I focus on trust—in the Lord and in how we support these players, ensuring they know, ‘This is the best place for me.'”
On the running game following Ashton Jeanty’s departure: “The running game is a vital aspect of our offense. I’ve been asked if we’ll change significantly without Ashton. The answer is no. Our offense, defense, and special teams will adapt based on our players, but we remain committed to running the football. I believe in that philosophy.
“We aim for a balanced approach this year, ideally in a 50-50 run-to-pass ratio. I’m proud of how our players are rising to the challenge.”
On creating explosive plays from the running back position: “We must be an explosive offense. Conversely, our defensive goal is to prevent explosive plays. Offensively, we need to generate them. With the talent in our running back room, we’ll find ways to make big plays happen. This year, we’ll utilize packages with two running backs on the field because of the explosive talent we have in our backfield.”
On the revamped defensive line: “I believe we’ve made progress with our defensive tackles. Dion Washington and David Latu, as new additions, have been playing significantly, and I expect them to continue contributing. Michael Madrie and Lopez Sanusi are veterans stepping up their performance now.”
