Head coach Nick Sirianni & GM Howie Roseman Convey A Major News Update For The Philadelphia Eagles Fans
The focus has shifted to the 2025 NFL Draft for the reigning Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, and recent connections to the Georgia Bulldogs might be too valuable to overlook with the No. 32 overall pick. The Eagles’ strong defense, guided by respected coordinator Vic Fangio, features several former UGA stars who thrived under head coach Kirby Smart. Since 2022, Philadelphia has selected five Georgia defenders, including first-round picks defensive linemen Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, as well as outside linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. They also picked linebacker Nakobe Dean in the third round and cornerback Kelee Ringo in the fourth.
Additionally, former Georgia safety Lewis Cine joined from the Bills’ practice squad before the Super Bowl, and the Eagles recently signed former UGA EDGE Azeez Ojulari. This brings the total to seven players from Georgia’s 2020 defense on Philadelphia’s roster. Looking ahead to this draft, the Eagles may have a chance to add an eighth Georgia player in the first round. In a mock draft by Luke Easterling and Doug Farrar from Athlon Sports, Philadelphia is projected to select three-time All-American safety Malaki Starks with their No. 32 pick.
Easterling and Farrar opted for a “what we would do” approach instead of predicting what will happen on Day 1 of the draft. “It’s crazy that he (Starks) has lasted this long,” Farrar stated on “BPA: The NFL Draft Show” on Monday. “His athleticism is off the charts.” Easterling added, “Well, he went to Georgia, so it’s expected.” Starks, standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 197 pounds, quickly made an impact at Georgia after signing as a five-star recruit from Jefferson, Georgia, in 2022.
He earned a starting position and helped his team win a national championship as a true freshman. Following a wave of NFL departures, Starks stepped up in his sophomore year, taking on greater responsibilities both on the field and as a leader. He solidified his place in Georgia’s legacy during his senior year, receiving All-American honors for the third straight year. Over 43 games, he recorded 197 total tackles (including six for a loss), six interceptions, and 17 pass breakups, without missing a single game. However, Farrar pointed out that while Starks had a remarkable career as a Bulldog, he was not always elite in coverage.
This is where Fangio could play a crucial role in refining Starks into a reliable starter at the next level. “If anyone can address Starks’ coverage issues, it’s Vic,” Farrar said. “Few are better in the secondary at minimizing timing mistakes; he knows how to tighten things up.” The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled to take place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
