Head Coach Dabo Swinney shared Major injury update regarding cornerback Ashton Hampton
Now that the Clemson Tigers have completed their spring game, there will be plenty of discussion until fall arrives.
In many respects, Saturday’s game provided the last chance for most fans to see the Tigers players in action or during practice, resulting in a cheerful atmosphere throughout the event.
However, not all players were involved.
Ashton Hampton, who started four games as a freshman cornerback in 2024, was a significant addition for the Tigers, especially since coach Dabo Swinney and his staff attracted him from Florida State University High School in Tallahassee, Florida.
He participated in 14 games over the season, racking up 27 tackles (19 solo and eight assists), with half a tackle for loss. He intercepted two passes, deflected five, and defended seven, also scoring a touchdown on one of those interceptions.

Hampton is set to be a crucial part of the Clemson defense next season, but he will be sidelined for a period.
Reporters at the game, including Clemson Insider, observed Hampton wearing a sling on his right shoulder and not participating. Given Hampton’s strong spring performance, they were eager to learn more about his condition.
Swinney disclosed that Hampton recently underwent shoulder surgery and had some issues “cleaned” up.
“Ashton kind of re-injured himself,” Swinney explained. “We needed to get him cleaned up, but he will be back and ready to go.”
“Back and ready to go” likely refers to the start of the Tigers’ fall practices. If he recovers well, he will play a significant role in Clemson’s defensive strategy.
Thanks in part to Hampton, the Tigers finished the season with a 10-4 record, falling to Texas in the first round of the expanded 12-team playoff.
This offseason, Clemson’s biggest addition was defensive coordinator Tom Allen, the respected former head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, who is joining the team to improve their struggling defense from the previous season.
Clemson’s strongest asset appears to be Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Cade Klubnik, who had his most impressive statistical season in three years. Klubnik impressed both coaches and fans with his dual-threat capability, throwing for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while also rushing for 463 yards and seven touchdowns.
