The Florida Gators are deep into their spring practice, and everything seems to be going well. DJ Lagway has returned to the practice field, but he still hasn’t begun throwing. While it’s encouraging to see him back, concerns linger about his inability to throw. At the start of spring practice, head coach Napier addressed his shoulder injury, noting, “I think some lower body, some shoulder. Our intentions are to be very cautious. He will have limitations on throwing activities, but will participate in all other practices. We’ve done extensive research regarding his situation as a player. He’s shown incredible toughness and competitiveness. We’ve consulted several experts from UF Health and beyond. Generally, he should be able to do quite a bit, but there will be some restrictions.”
The fact that Lagway hasn’t been able to throw is troubling, especially since the hope is for him to do so by the end of spring practice. Shoulder injuries can be particularly challenging for quarterbacks, as they are crucial for throwing strength.
That said, it’s still a positive sign that Lagway can participate in practice, which also benefits the other quarterbacks on the depth chart by giving them valuable practice reps in case they need to step in for him.
This situation will be a major storyline throughout the summer and will continue to be scrutinized until he starts throwing regularly.
