BREAKING: Houston’s defense holds strong in 2-1 win against UTSA

Houston soccer overcame a physical battle under gloomy skies to secure their second consecutive victory, defeating the University of Texas at San Antonio 2-1 on Thursday evening.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute when sophomore midfielder Ayranna Jimison broke through the Roadrunner defense for the goal. Jimison remained aggressive on the offensive end, doubling Houston’s lead in the 68th minute after receiving a cross from senior defender Anna Reysa.

UTSA refused to go down without a fight, cutting Houston’s lead to one in the 81st minute as they attempted a second-half comeback. The game grew increasingly physical towards the end, with junior forward Cameryn Maddox and UTSA senior defender Sasjah Dade both receiving red cards in the 85th minute.

Despite the late pressure, the Cougars managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle, improving their season record to 2-2-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich set a new career high with 14 saves in a single match.
