Graham Mertz finally addresses the claim that Florida’s schedule will be the hardest in 2024.
Quarterback Graham Mertz’s second season with the Florida Gators will be in 2024. He thinks fans have reason for optimism this season.
Mertz stated that he thinks Florida’s team this year has the depth and experience to be a stronger team than they were in 2023 while addressing the media at the Manning Passing Academy.
Graham Mertz remarked, “I think the Gator fans are going to like what they see.” We seem to have depth, in fact. Numerous new players were added to both sides of the ball. Guys with experience. But overall, we have more depth this year than we did the previous.
2023 saw Florida go 5-7. The Gators missed out on a bowl game for the first time since 2017, and it happened during the program’s second season under head coach Billy Napier. With one of the most challenging schedules in the nation, many anticipate that Florida will have a challenging season. Under Napier, the Gators have only gone 11–14 in those two seasons.
Fans may be worried about 2024, but Graham Mertz doesn’t think the same thing. Rather, he has high hopes for the upcoming season. Mertz said, “I’m always excited about every season, but I think we have a special team.”
Graham Mertz played four seasons at Wisconsin before transferring to Florida. This includes the 2019 season, in which he played in just two games to take a redshirt, and the 2020 season, which was hampered by the pandemic. He is among the most seasoned quarterbacks in collegiate football as a result.
Mertz completed 72.9 percent of the passes for 2,903 yards and 20 touchdowns in the 2023 season at Florida. He will now want to improve on those results and assist in returning the Gators to the top of the SEC.
Having a demanding schedule could seem like a bad thing for a club trying to recover from a poor season. Graham Mertz, though, is looking forward to a challenging schedule in 2024.
“I adore it. You do not desire the simplest schedule. I mean, I believe that having the simplest schedule in the world is not something you want if you’re a competitor, love football, and enjoy seeing the biggest games on the largest stages, Mertz remarked.
Thus, we have the world’s hardest schedule, quote-unquote. That is advantageous. Because if you go out there and perform well, play quality football, and win, you can say that the schedule is the hardest in the entire world. That is what you want as a rival.
