Good News: Hubert Davis & The Tar Heels Confirmed A Massive Commitment News On A Significant Player
Since the transfer portal opened a week and a half ago, UNC basketball has been linked to several transfers. On Tuesday night, Hubert Davis and his Tar Heels landed their first commitment in former West Virginia guard Jonathan Powell.
The 6-foot-6, 191-pound freshman met with the UNC basketball staff via Zoom on Monday. Before choosing Chapel Hill, Powell also visited Ohio State and spoke with coaches from Ole Miss but ultimately selected UNC. He was among the first transfers to be contacted by the Tar Heels last week.
During his single season with the Mountaineers, Powell started in more than half of his games, averaging 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He recorded shooting percentages of 37.8% from the field, 35.2% from three-point range, and 48.0% from the free-throw line.
Jonathan Powell checks in at No. 89 overall and No. 24 among shooting guards in the transfer portal, per the initial 247Sports rankings released on Tuesday.
His addition to the 2025-26 UNC basketball roster helps to replace five-year Tar Heel legend RJ Davis and outbound transfer guard Elliot Cadeau.
