Good News For The Louisville Cardinals, Head Coach Jeff Brohm’ Announce Another Top Commitment Of A Top Player
Louisville football has added another transfer at the tight end position.
Former Oklahoma tight end Davon Mitchell announced his commitment to the Cardinals on Sunday, following a campus visit earlier in the week.
Mitchell becomes the third tight end to transfer to Louisville this spring, joining C.J. Jacobsen from Utah and Jacob Steward from San Jose State.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 259 pounds, Mitchell was a highly-touted prospect out of high school, ranked No. 154 overall in the 247Sports Composite. He received offers from powerhouse programs including Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and USC.

Originally from Los Alamitos, California, Mitchell was part of the 2025 recruiting class before reclassifying to 2024 to enroll early at Oklahoma. However, he didn’t see any game action during his freshman season and entered the transfer portal this spring.
Despite losing 24 scholarship players to the portal—including six this spring—Louisville has actively replenished its roster, securing 28 transfer commitments overall, with nine arriving during the spring window.
Louisville wrapped up the 2024 season—its second under head coach Jeff Brohm—with a 9-4 record, highlighted by a 35-34 victory over Washington in the Sun Bowl. The team is set to begin Brohm’s third year at the helm with a matchup against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, August 30 at L&N Stadium.
