Good News For the Chargers
While the Chargers have addressed some of these gaps through NFL free agency, the need to replace Asante Samuel Jr. remains a priority. CBS Sports’ Kyle Stackpole, in his latest mock draft, proposes a solution by projecting the Chargers to select Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron with the 22nd overall pick.
Stackpole’s projection highlights Barron, the Jim Thorpe Award winner, as an ideal fit for the slot position, potentially securing that role for the foreseeable future. “The Chargers land Jahdae Barron, who won the Jim Thorpe Award as the best defensive back in college football last season. He’s not an elite athlete but he does everything really well,” Stackpole wrote for CBS Sports.
Barron’s 2024 season at Texas was marked by impressive statistics, including 82 tackles, 11 pass defenses, and five interceptions. While his lack of elite explosiveness and sub-6-foot stature place him on the fringe of the first round, he is regarded as a reliable prospect with a high floor.
