For the most part, the Chicago White Sox have wrapped up their major moves this offseason. While there’s a possibility they could consider trading Luis Robert Jr. before Opening Day, it appears unlikely any significant action will take place until the season begins.
The White Sox seem satisfied with making mid-level acquisitions to bolster their roster with depth and potential bounce-back players. In a recent development, the White Sox have re-signed infielder Jacob Amaya. They had previously designated Amaya for assignment about a month ago to accommodate the addition of Josh Rojas. In a corresponding action, the team designated outfielder Zach DeLoach for assignment, according to their X account. “The Chicago White Sox have claimed infielder Jake Amaya off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.
To clear a spot for Amaya on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated outfielder Zach DeLoach for assignment.”

Amaya’s major league journey has certainly been a rollercoaster. The 26-year-old infielder was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eleventh round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft, coming from South Hills High School in West Covina, CA. The White Sox acquired Amaya last August after the Houston Astros designated him for assignment. During his stint with the Astros, he primarily played in the minors, making only one major league appearance.
Though he’s recognized more for his defensive skills than his batting, Amaya’s offensive performance in the minors has been pretty average, boasting a slash line of .251/.353/.389 for an OPS of .742. In his brief 23-game run with the White Sox, he struggled, hitting .179/.225/.194, resulting in an OPS and OPS+ of .419 and 23, respectively. With players like Colson Montgomery, Brooks Baldwin, and Lenyn Sosa ahead of him on the depth chart, Amaya became expendable. So what does Amaya bring upon his return? With Amaya back in the fold, he adds depth to the roster and could serve as a defensive replacement if he makes the major league squad.
As for DeLoach, he will go through waivers, allowing any team the chance to claim him. If he passes through waivers, he has fewer than three years of service time and two minor league options available, making him eligible to be optioned down.
