Gonzaga Bulldogs Receive Big News
Georgia basketball established itself as an NCAA Tournament lock well before Selection Sunday with a strong regular season finish and avoiding any losses to teams that weren’t expected to be in the field of 68.
It became official during the 6 p.m. CBS show that the Bulldogs are dancing.
Silas Demary Jr., Asa Newell and company are part of the program’s first March Madness trip since 2015.
The Bulldogs are a No. 9 seed in the Midwest region and will play No. 8 seed Gonzaga on Thursday in Wichita, Kan.
Tip times and TV networks will be announced later.
“It’s what it’s all about,” coach Mike White said after Georgia’s first-round SEC Tournament loss to Oklahoma on Wednesday night. “It’s why we all came to Georgia, all of us, to build something.”
White took over a Georgia program in 2022 that had bottomed out at 6-26 in Tom Crean’s fourth season.
Georgia went 16-16 in White’s first season, 20-16 in year two when it reached the NIT semifinals and 20-12 this season. Gonzaga is 25-8.
“We want to compete for national success in all 21 of our sports, and we believe that he is the coach that can build Georgia basketball to a consistent winner on the collegiate basketball landscape,” Josh Brooks said on the day the Bulldogs surprised many by hiring White from Florida.
Getting to the tournament is a step along the way. Now the Bulldogs will try to win on the sport’s biggest postseason stage.
