New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers remains in concussion protocol after exiting their Week 4 game in the final minutes last Thursday. However, the most recent update on his condition has been optimistic.
As reported by ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, fellow wide receiver Darius Slayton visited Malik Nabers early Monday. He noted that the rookie is in “good spirits” as he navigates the concussion protocol and aims to return to the field soon. Nabers sustained the concussion during the final minutes of the Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys when he attempted to catch a difficult pass from Daniel Jones along the sideline but ended up hitting the ground hard. Before the injury, Nabers was having an impressive game, recording 115 receiving yards on 12 catches out of 15 targets. Although the Giants didn’t score a touchdown in Week 4, Nabers played a crucial role in advancing the team down the field, helping them get into field goal position and keeping New York competitive throughout the match.
It remains uncertain whether Nabers will be able to pass concussion protocol in time for Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks, scheduled for Sunday. The Giants need him to participate, as he is a vital part of their offense, and the team is already struggling with a 1-3 record this season. Nabers currently ranks second in the NFL with 386 receiving yards and leads the league with 35 receptions and 52 targets. He has quickly established himself not only as one of the best rookies but also as an elite wide receiver overall. If he is unable to play on Sunday, Wan’Dale Robinson would likely see a significant uptick in targets and become Daniel Jones’ primary offensive option. Robinson ranks second on the team in receptions (26), targets (38), and receiving yards (138), trailing only Nabers in all three metrics.
