Giants mock trade lands 1st-overall pick, superstar Colorado QB

The New York Giants are looking for a quarterback this off-season after deciding to bench Daniel Jones during the bye week. General manager Joe Schoen attempted to trade up in the 2024 NFL Draft to secure a quarterback but was unsuccessful. However, he will have a chance to rectify that in the 2025 NFL Draft.

As per Tankathon, the Giants currently hold the fourth overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, with a possibility of landing the first pick, although competition is fierce. This situation could prompt the Giants to consider a bold trade to move up to the top spot, similar to what was suggested in ESPN’s latest mock draft, where they traded up to secure the first overall pick.

In the latest mock draft by ESPN’s Matt Miller, he predicts that the Giants will make a significant trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars to move from the third pick to the first overall pick.

“I have the Giants going all in to resolve their quarterback issue, offering Jacksonville their second- and third-round picks in 2025, along with a second-rounder in 2026, to make the leap from No. 3,” Miller stated. “This move positions New York ahead of Cleveland, which may also be targeting a quarterback, and importantly, it doesn’t require sacrificing any future first-round picks. Meanwhile, the Jaguars benefit by gaining valuable draft assets to strengthen a roster in need of improvement.”

Miller’s proposed trade allows the Giants to get ahead of other teams looking for a quarterback, like the Cleveland Browns. However, giving up such a significant amount of draft capital for a single prospect could be a contentious choice for a franchise in the rebuilding phase. On the bright side, this mock trade allows the Giants to keep their 2026 first-round pick, which is a big advantage.

In this scenario, the Giants select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the first overall pick.

With their newly acquired first overall pick, the Giants take a chance on Colorado standout quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders in Miller’s mock draft:

“Sanders is the top quarterback in the 2025 class, showcasing exceptional accuracy (72.9% completion percentage), resilience in the pocket, and playmaking skills that the Giants’ offense has been missing,” Miller noted. “His ability to read the field and deliver the ball quickly makes him ready to step in immediately.”

Miller highlights Sanders’ composure and remarkable accuracy as key strengths. He compared Sanders to one of the league’s elite quarterbacks, C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans:

“Sanders shares similarities with C.J. Stroud in his throwing ability and accuracy. While he’s not primarily a runner, he moves well within the pocket and can be a threat on the ground when necessary; he has rushed for four touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. The Giants could create a dynamic partnership by pairing the highly accurate Sanders with 2024 first-round receiver Malik Nabers, giving them a competitive edge in the NFC East.”

The prospect of combining Sanders with 2024 first-round pick Malik Nabers is exciting. Both players possess explosive playmaking talent and could form a formidable duo for opposing defenses to contend with. While Sanders has his own weaknesses, his potential at the next level is substantial. The question remains whether he’s worth the risk of trading significant assets to move up and select him. That’s a decision Schoen and the Giants will need to make by April.
