The University of Georgia has revealed how it plans to allocate the annual $ 20.5 million intended for its student-athletes
The House vs NCAA settlement is anticipated to be a transformative event for collegiate athletics, as it marks the first time in history that schools will be mandated to share a portion of the revenue generated from athletics with student-athletes. A total of $ 20.5 million in annual revenue will be distributed among the student-athletes.
Each athletics department will have the discretion to decide how to utilize these funds. As for Georgia, athletic director Josh Brooks has shared some insights after speaking with the media.
Brooks stated that 75% of the budget, amounting to 13.5million,willbeallocatedtofootball,while15 2.7 million) will go to men’s basketball, 5% ( $ 900,000) to women’s basketball, and the remaining 5% will be designated for other programs. Additionally, he announced plans to introduce 100 new scholarships while eliminating 75 roster spots.
The Bulldogs have been proactively preparing for the anticipated changes in the collegiate landscape this offseason with various strategic moves. Earlier, they appointed Tanner Potts from the athletic department as the CEO of the Classic City Collective. Furthermore, Steven Drummond, the university’s vice president and chief communications officer, has taken on the role of deputy athletic director and chief marketing officer.
