Florida State made history by dropping out of the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll on Tuesday after starting the season with two losses as a preseason top-10 team.
The Seminoles, heavily favored, lost their opening game to ACC rival Georgia Tech in Ireland and then fell to Boston College at home on Monday night.
FSU is only the third team to go from a preseason top-10 ranking to unranked in the first regular-season poll since it expanded to 25 teams in 1989, following Michigan in 2007 and Clemson in 2008.
“I’m sick about how this season began,” said FSU coach Mike Norvell after the 28-13 loss to Boston College. “I didn’t prepare the team well enough to respond tonight.”
No. 1 Georgia retained its top spot in the poll, garnering 57 first-place votes after a decisive 34-3 victory over then-No. 14 Clemson, which dropped to No. 25.
The SEC has three teams in the top four: Georgia, No. 3 Texas, and No. 4 Alabama. Ohio State, with five first-place votes, is ranked No. 2.
Notre Dame climbed two spots to No. 5 after defeating then-No. 20 Texas A&M in their opener.
The SEC boasts five teams in the top 10, with Mississippi at No. 6 and Missouri moving up two spots to No. 9.
Oregon slipped from No. 3 to No. 7 after a close win over Idaho, while Penn State held steady at No. 8. Michigan dropped one spot to No. 10.
Miami soared seven places to No. 12 following a dominant victory over Florida, and Southern California jumped 10 spots to No. 13 after defeating LSU, which fell five spots to No. 18.
Georgia Tech (2-0), with victories over Florida State and Georgia State, is ranked No. 23, marking its first ranking since 2015.
