Georgia football discovered something bigger than an Easter egg on Sunday. The Bulldogs secured “the top available defender” through the college football transfer portal.

Head coach Kirby Smart and his staff brought in Army transfer Elo Modozie, as reported by Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz on Sunday evening. The edge rusher stands out as one of the few players from a U.S. service academy to enter the portal. Smart and the Georgia team hosted Modozie for a visit on Thursday.

With this addition, he becomes the Bulldogs’ ninth transfer for the 2025 class. Smart and Georgia have been very active in the offseason, recently adding well-known USC brothers Zion and Zachariah Branch.

Modozie attracted significant attention as soon as he entered the portal

Modozie emerged as the top available player after Nico Iamaleava, ranking No. 2 among the remaining entries according to 247Sports. Cooper Petegna praised him in his evaluation for the outlet.

“He’s one of those athletes that you can’t help but watch once you start,” Petegna noted. “He has a variety of pass-rush techniques that he excels at, including speed, quickness, and strength, along with a tireless motor.”

Petegna elaborated on how Modozie’s athleticism is earned, hinting at a significant potential for growth in his football abilities.

“The more you look into his track and field background, the more you notice it on film,” Petegna explained. “He’s an explosive athlete whose best performances are still ahead of him, but he can contribute immediately.”

The 6-foot-3, 249-pound native of Jacksonville, Florida, brings an intriguing physical presence to Athens. He was previously a high school wide receiver before committing to Army for that position.

Modozie is transferring from the Black Knights after an impressive 2024 season, where he recorded 34 tackles, including eight for a loss, and achieved 6.5 sacks. Georgia has brought in a talent that could reignite national championship discussions on campus
