Georgia head coach Kirby Smart offers Injury update On Juan Gaston and Earnest Greene After Saturday’s Victory over Marshall

Georgia suffered some key injuries early in Saturday’s 45-7 win over Marshall, losing starting offensive linemen Juan Gaston and Earnest Greene in the first quarter. Additionally, the Bulldogs played the entire game without veteran defender Daylen Everette, who was expected to be a major contributor this season.
After the team’s first win of the 2025 campaign, head coach Kirby Smart provided updates on the injured players. Gaston is set to undergo an MRI to determine if he’s dealing with a high-ankle sprain. Smart offered little information about Everette, stating only that “he’s injured.” As for Greene, Smart said he experienced “lower-body stiffness” and wasn’t able to return to action.
Gaston, who became the first true freshman offensive lineman to start for Georgia in a season opener since 2017, exited the game after the Bulldogs second touchdown of the day. The starting right guard was rolled up on as Gunner Stockton kept a zone read and ran it 13 yards for a touchdown. Gaston walked off the field under his own power but never reentered the game.
Greene’s injury was less obvious but he, too, didn’t see action after the second series. He was replaced by Bo Hughley, who played the rest of the first-team snaps at right tackle. It wasn’t until later in the game that Georgia Bulldog Radio Network sideline reporter DJ Shockley revealed that he was out with a leg injury.
The California native made his first start at right tackle on Saturday. He had previously started 23 games at left tackle with 14 of those taking place in 2023 and nine more to start the 2024 season. A left shoulder injury sidelined him for three games to end the 2024 regular season.
Despite going through pregame warmup, Everette didn’t play at all in the season opener. It broke a string of 28 straight starts for the senior cornerback. Georgia turned to redshirt freshman Ellis Robinson and junior Daniel Harris to start against the Thundering Herd.
Georgia will be back at home next Saturday to take on Austin Peay. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and SECNetwork+.
